Here comes the sun, little darlings. It has, in fact, been a long, cold, lonely winter in more ways than one for our little town. But that’s how the seasons—and history—move, as they always have. While our own struggles and the challenges facing our community and world may feel insurmountable at times, remember—it’s just a season. But while everything is temporary, the decisions we make, the words we speak, and the lives we lead leave an impact not just today, but may create ripple effects in Zachary for generations to come. Our cover story is proof of that.
In these pages, we share the origin stories of three of Zachary’s most prominent families—when they arrived, the contributions and the sacrifices they made, and how their descendants continue to walk the paths laid by some of the area’s earliest settlers. We’ve also mapped out how many locals are connected to these families by birth or marriage—not just because it’s fascinating, but also as a friendly reminder: in Zachary, you’re never more than a degree or two away from someone’s cousin, so choose your words wisely!
Finally, we’ve got a story that will both surprise and amaze anyone new to town—the true tale of a world-famous actor who spent a significant amount of time in Zachary right around the time he was crowned People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive.” And yes, we’ve got the receipts to prove it!
As always, this issue is a celebration of the people, places and stories that make Zachary feel like home. Whether you’ve lived here for generations or just arrived, our history is made daily by the choices we make and the connections we forge. What will your legacy be?
Here’s to new beginnings, old ties, and the season ahead.
