BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo Rolls Out Something Big

BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo rolled out something big—literally! In celebration of Baton Rouge hosting the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Open Championship, the Zoo unveiled a giant four-foot bowling pin and bowling ball inside the giraffe exhibit at Baton Rouge Airport on Feb. 19.
The fun installation is a tribute to the excitement and energy surrounding the USBC Open Championship, which is expected to bring more than 60,000 attendees to the Raising Cane’s River Center this spring and summer. According to Visit Baton Rouge, the city welcomed a record-breaking 8.8 million visitors in 2023, generating $1.7 billion in local economic impact. Additionally, meetings, conventions and sporting events contributed $46.2 million to the region’s economy, highlighting Baton Rouge’s growing status as a top destination for major events.

“This fun addition to our giraffe exhibit celebrates the spirit of the USBC Open Championship while giving visitors a unique and engaging reason to visit the Zoo,” said Brittany Tully, senior communications manager at BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo. “We’re thrilled to be part of the excitement and to showcase this creative nod to the tournament.”
Representatives from Baton Rouge Airport, BREC, Baton Rouge Zoo, Baton Rouge Zoo Foundation, Visit Baton Rouge and other stakeholders attended the event.
The installation will remain on display at the airport through mid-August 2025, offering guests an opportunity to see this playful tribute up close.
