Tucked away at the end of a winding country road that runs alongside Americana Development, Bennett's Waterski and Wakeboard School is not just a world-class destination for water sports enthusiasts—it’s also home to one of the best-kept secrets in town: a pro shop offering a huge variety of watersports equipment. 

Economic Development Director Ashleigh McHugh and I led Marie Stagg of Visit Baton Rouge on a tour of Zachary last week, and Bennett’s was a must-see on our tour. While this was far from my first time at Bennett’s, it actually was my first time to step inside the pro shop, and I was blown away. 

So. Much. Gear. Wakeboards, wake surfboards, waterskis, all of the bits and bobs that go along with them. Helmets, gloves, paddles, wetsuits, ropes. Other water things whose names I don’t know, but Danyelle Bennett and her husband Stephen Critchley do. 

“We carry mostly Ronix and hyperlite surfboards and wakeboards, and we also do have hydrofoils and board packages available as well,” says Danyelle, waterski World Champion and daughter of Jay and Anne Bennett.

The Pro Shop offers day rentals on equipment, usually wakeboards or wakeboard surfers, who want to try it before they buy it.
