South Plains Food Co Has a New Menu

South Plains recently came out with a new menu designed to be lunch friendly, with options for smaller portions and lower prices on several entrees, plus new items.Owner Joel Frosch says the menu is designed to be lunch friendly for summer, lighter on the wallet and on the belly. They plan to come out with a heartier menu for the cold months.
The P&P crew enjoyed a special lunch last week in the super secret upper room (more on how you can score an entry upstairs will be announced in the coming weeks!), where Joel and his team prepared nearly one of EVERYTHING for us. You'll notice we didn't try any of the lighter menu items mentioned above. Strictly business.
We went home with 10 to-go boxes.
We started with a round of the new appetizers, including fried mushrooms with sauce, loaded flatbread, fried cracklins (an off-menu item that's sometimes a daily special), and the KT Plate, a South Plains charcuterie-style plate mimicking the Coach's Plate from Sammy's Grill. We very cutely, very demurely sampled everything so as to save room for the avalanche of food that was to follow.
The loaded flatbread is entree-sized, and I ate the rest of it on the couch at 10 p.m. in a decidedly not-demure fashion. It reheated great in the air fryer, and the pitas almost had a beignet-like flavor. Delish!
And if you're dining with children who can be picky eaters, the KT Plate can serve as a hearty appetizer. If there's one thing preschoolers love, it's the ability to dip things in a sauce.
A 6 oz ribeye is now offered for lunch. Served with two sides and garlic bread and priced at just $24, it's a generous portion at a generous price. Side note: South Plains Deli & To-Go has a cold case where sides and steaks can be bought, if you'd prefer to grill your own. We did this once and it was hands-down the best cut of meat I've ever bought in Z.
One of the standout stars is the new Hot Turkey Croissant, $14. It's like a club sandwich on a flaky croissant, served with crispy fries. Joel says it's the second most popular item on the menu now.
The South Plains take on the classic red beans and rice with sausage includes an option to add a side of fried fish for $16. To use the standard by which my mother in law judges her pot of Monday beans: it's a good batch.
Finally, let's talk about the Chicken Parmesan. First, an anecdote. Michael and I went on a date to a fancy Italian restaurant in Baton Rouge a few months back (no, it wasn't Olive Garden). Before confirming his order of chicken parm, he asked for angel hair pasta. "We'll serve it on the thinnest pasta we have!" the server responded enthusiastically, in somewhat of a riddle. THE NOODLES WERE REGULAR SIZED, Y'ALL. And it was $33. Baffling. South Plains didn't do us like that, though. Joel's house-made sauce struck the right balance between sweet, rich and a little spicy, and it was topped with two panko-breaded and fried chicken cutlets over angel hair pasta, like a proper Italian deserves. Plus a side salad and a garlic bread for $17. Chef's kiss.
