The Creatives: Ricky Riche, Ring Leader
Jul 22, 2024 01:32PM ● By Jen Gennaro
Mechanical engineer Ricky Riche was unsatisfied with his doorbell mount–it just couldn’t effectively adjust to monitor his doorstep properly. After scouring the market for solutions and coming up empty-handed, he used his mechanical mind and his 3D printer to design a new, custom doorbell mount.
After months of design and trials, Ricky perfected a mount that could work for most doorbells, addressing various installation issues that doorbell manufacturers couldn’t accommodate. This innovation quickly transformed from a personal project into a burgeoning side business. Ricky began selling his adjustable doorbell mounts on Etsy under the shop name Doorbellpro, which saw increasing demand month after month.

Recognizing a gap in the market for customizable doorbell mounts that allow the owner to adjust the angle, Ricky expanded his sales platforms. He launched his own websites, www.perfectbuzzer.com and www.doorbellmount.com, to reach a broader audience. His mounts cater to the 5% of people who face challenges with their doorbell installations, offering solutions that standard manufacturers don’t provide.
To date, Ricky has sold about 2,500 units, with monthly sales ranging from 200 to 300. His products have garnered orders from across the country and even overseas.
Looking ahead, Ricky has no plans to stop. He hopes this side business will eventually allow him to retire early and work from home, continuing to provide innovative solutions for doorbell installations.
Ricky, if you’re reading this, please focus your attention on bacon packaging next–this has gone on long enough.
