“Hurricane Storm is blowing through!” my friend told me a few years back, by way of introduction. True to his name, I came to learn that Storm tears through a room with a whirlwind of energy, tearing it apart, and putting it all back together with a stunning vision and eye for detail.

Zachary local celebrity Storm Lantrip, a design consultant and decorator based in Zachary, is the epitome of creativity and dedication in the world of interior design. Growing up in the area, he graduated from Zachary High School in 2014 and pursued his passion for design at LSU, where he studied Interior Design. An internship with Signature Southern during his sophomore year turned into a lasting career; he has been with them for a decade, marking 10 years this past May.

Storm's journey into interior design was sparked by a personal project at age 16, when he redecorated his bedroom with Ralph Lauren chocolate brown suede paint, navy curtains, and black and white photography. This project was the catalyst for his decision to pursue a career in interior design, though he also considered psychology. This background in understanding people has greatly influenced his approach to design, allowing him to tailor spaces that truly reflect his clients' personalities.

“Design is collaborative,” Storm says. “Clients can sometimes be their own worst enemies, but I help take things from concepts in their heads to something concrete.” His talent lies in discerning who his clients are and expressing that identity through their decor. From quirky artist couples to art-loving retirees, Storm thrives on challenging projects that push his creativity.

Working in Zachary has its perks. According to Storm, “There’s such a broad range of styles here. You never know who will walk through the door. Someone might come in looking like they just stepped off a tractor but they’ll have a huge new construction project and need a full house design. We treat everyone with respect here. Why would you not?” The diverse clientele and competitive pricing in Zachary, coupled with access to high-quality materials, make it a unique and inspiring place for his work.

His process begins with a $200 consultation to gauge the scope of the project, followed by a detailed evaluation of the space. Storm emphasizes the importance of early collaboration with architects during the design phase to ensure that the house functions as desired.

Storm's love for his work is evident: “I love that I get to make the world a more beautiful place. So many people get to experience the spaces that I design, not just the homeowners but their friends and families.”

His best free design advice? “Don’t fill up every single inch of space in your home all at once. Leave some areas open for those special finds.”
