Flag Day Reminders from the City

Today is Flag Day, the official observance of America’s emblem. Flag Day serves as a reminder of the values and ideals that the American flag represents. It symbolizes unity, freedom, and the sacrifices made by countless individuals throughout history to protect and preserve the nation's liberties.

Flag Day is a great reminder for homes and businesses to check the condition of the flags they fly. "We certainly did at the City of Zachary, and we recently ordered all new flags that proudly wave up and down Main Street," says Sharon Phillips, City of Zachary's Public Information Officer. "Check your flag today, and if it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, it should be destroyed in a dignified way."

In 2020, The City of Zachary was gifted a retirement flag box from local Eagle Scout Morgan Day for public use to retire tattered or faded flags. The flag box is located in the rear of the City Annex Parking lot at 4650 Main Street. Flags should be folded before being placed in the box.
