On Tuesday, March 14, 2023, four Zachary High School juniors (Julia Blanchard, Eni Nwabueze, Amelia Williams, and Austin Wiltz) competed in the 46th annual DEMCO Youth Tour essay contest at White Oak Estate & Gardens in Baton Rouge. Three students (Julia Blanchard, Eni Nwabueze, and Amelia Williams), along with three other students from the DEMCO service area, won an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C., this summer for the 2023 NRECA Youth Tour. More than 300 students participated in the 2023 DEMCO essay contest from schools in DEMCO’s seven-parish service area: Ascension, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Livingston, St. Helena, Tangipahoa and West Feliciana.
Attendees of the DEMCO Youth Tour Banquet had the privilege to hear an inspiring speech from Jeff Morrow, weather-caster for WAFB and a DEMCO Youth Tour alumni. He went on the trip to Washington, D.C., in 2002. Jeff still has his name badge and trading pins from the trip!
