ZHS Art Students Selected for Baton Rouge Gallery Exhibit

The Zachary High School Art Department was well represented at the annual Baton Rouge Gallery REAL-LIFE EXPERIENCE Juried High School Exhibition. The aim of the exhibition is to share the talents of area students with our community while encouraging them to continue pursuing their artistic talents outside the classroom.

The exhibition also draws attention to the importance of arts education, celebrating both its positive effects on the youth of the Baton Rouge area and the efforts of the educators that challenge their students on a daily basis.

The opening of the exhibition was on April 6th from 6-9 pm and a huge crowd was present. The First Lady of Louisiana, Donna Edwards, was on hand with a greeting to get the event started. Seven student pieces were selected from ZHS and accepted into the exhibition. This program allows students to experience how a gallery works and how competitive it is to be selected for a juried show. They get to see their artwork displayed in a professional gallery setting. The exhibition consists of 50 selected works of art by high school students from both public and private schools in the Baton Rouge area. There were more than 200 works of art submitted.

ZHS art student Jaden Richard won 2nd place for his painting “A Dip in Gumbo.” The winners are announced at the opening. Jaden had two works of art accepted into the exhibition. Seven ZHS pieces total were selected to be in the collection.

Jaden Richard – “A Dip in Gumbo”, acrylic on canvas.
