Zachary native Sean “Squirrel” Burrell won his second consecutive 400M Hurdles National Title in Oregon on Friday, June 10.
Burrell graduated from Zachary High School and is currently a sophomore at Louisiana State University.
Last season, Burrell won the 2021 NCAA Division Outdoor Track and Field Championship and set the U20 world record in the event. He ranks second in school history and fourth-fastest in collegiate history.
Burrell is the third LSU hurdler to win an NCAA title in the 400M hurdles and the first athlete to win back-to-back 400M hurdles titles at the NCAA championships since Eric Futch of Florida did it in 2016 and ’17
With a time of 48.70, Burrell beat his competition by almost two lengths on Friday night.
Burrell had been nicknamed “Squirrel” at 10 years old by family and friends for his quick speed and agility.
