Do you have a budding musician who’s ready to take things to the next level? Maybe you have a songbird who dreams of representing Louisiana again on American Idol. Whatever your child’s musical aspirations, Rockin’ Mozart Music School has come to Zachary to change lives through music education.
Founded by Dr. Michael Berthelot (LSU, Composition), the first Rockin Mozart Music School began in 2005 in Plaquemine. Since then, he’s established schools in Donaldsonville, Port Allen, and now, Zachary. Dr. Berthelot also runs the music program at MSA Academy in Plaquemine. Under his leadership, the program has flourished. Because of their superior competition showing, they will be performing at Carnegie Hall this spring.Â
Students at Rockin’ Mozart Schools are encouraged to perform and compete. Students regularly form bands with other members and perform all around their communities at events such as Christmas Tree Lightings, 4th of July events, or even just live concerts. With their focus on fundamentals and musicality, these students have the ability to learn challenging, two hour long sets. The schools also host seasonal recitals and train students who wish to compete in musical competitions.Â
Here in Zachary, you can catch Dr. Berthelot teaching most instruments, with a specialty in brass instruments and piano, but he’s also building an impressive roster of instructors. His wife, Dorela, is a Cellist with Louisiana Sinfonietta, Louisiana Philharmonic, and BRSO. Dorela is available to teach on Fridays. Chase Gillett has a Masters in Percussion from LSU and teaches everything from percussion and piano to guitar, bass, and ukulele. Chase is available to teach on Monday and Wednesdays. LSU composition student Dakota Kennedy, a former lessons manager at Guitar Center, teaches piano, woodwinds, violin and guitar. Dakota is available to teach on Tuesdays as early as 3:00 PM.Â
Jessee Altazan manages the office, but is currently on maternity leave until mid-March. When she returns, she will also be teaching voice, guitar and piano. Finally, Erin Trent has recently come on board as a vocal instructor.Â
