Attention Pokemon enthusiasts!
Pikachu, Charizard, and all of their friends and foes are alive and well in Zachary! On the first Sunday of each month, area youngsters and their parents are busy exercising their trading and negotiating skills at the Zachary Branch Library from 4 p.m.- 5:30 p.m. The group began meeting in March, and the momentum has not stopped.
Group facilitators launched the event through a local Facebook moms group and then formed a separate Facebook group – Pokemon Trading Zachary.
“The only requirement besides the kids having fun is we ask that each child bring a non-perishable food item that we will be donating to the Zachary Food Pantry,” said group facilitator Ashley Cobb. The Zachary Newcomers Club is the official host of the event.
The group of boys and girls has ranged in age from 6-13, but there is no age requirement to participate. Many parents enjoy participating as much as the children, as they began collecting the cards years ago, and are helpful as advisors and moderators.
“Xander and I had a blast. Great bunch of kids and parents. The overall atmosphere was high energy and family-friendly, which is perfect for my 7-year-old. I was also excited to see the younger kids collaborating with the older ones,” remarked Cody Parker, who guides the youngsters as a group moderator.
