Zachary Stories

A bitter pill

Medical Pharmacy West and Heathcare Services/Medical Pharmacy near the hospital will be shutting its doors for good on January 2. The unexpected announcement comes after more than 50 years in business for the pharmacies, owned by the LeTard family.

The company announced its closure on December 23, posting the following message on Facebook:

Due to unforeseen circumstances, it is with great sadness, that we will be closing Healthcare Services and Medical Pharmacy West on January 2, 2023.

Patient prescription files will be transferred to:

Central Pharmacy

9952 Sullivan Road

Baton Rouge, LA 70818

Phone # (225) 262-6200

If a patient objects to the transfer of their prescription files to Central Pharmacy, please make arrangements for the transfer of their prescription files to another pharmacy prior to January 2, 2023.

The family of John and Audrey LeTard and the employees of Healthcare Services and Medical Pharmacy West would like to extend our deepest appreciation to our loyal customers for allowing us to serve you for more than 50 years.  Thank you and God bless you.

Most employees found out just days ago, and sources say payroll will end in about a week. No word on what the unforeseen circumstances may be, but there is a known nationwide shortage of many common prescriptions, including some ADHD and diabetes drugs, as well as certain antibiotics.

This will certainly be a tough adjustment for the hundreds of residents who have used Medical Pharmacy for their prescriptions. The community thanks the LeTard family and their wonderful employees for years of service.
